City Council

The City Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 7:00 in the City Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of City Hall.

	Darren Bates City Council Member Darren Bates and his wife Melanie moved to Council Bluffs in 1995 because of the potential they saw in this growing community. They built their home here, had two children Lexie and Libby, and run a small business. Darren's primary occupation is as a Captain and Paramedic on the Omaha Fire Department and his collegiate background is in Fire Protection Technology and Emergency Medical Services. He is also a certified instructor for the Department of Homeland Defense. Darren's commitment is to make the community a better place for his daughters and the citizens for which he serves. He is active on the YMCA Board of Directors and volunteers his time to teach CPR for the American Heart Association. He was elected to the Council in 2005.	Dbates@CouncilBluffs-IA.Gov
	Scott Belt City Council Member Scott A. Belt was first elected to Council in 1998, Council Member Belt is currently serving his second four- year term and is presently Mayor Pro-Tem. Scott and his wife Ann, have four children Kara, Erin, Justin & Chad. Council Member Belt received his education in Iowa schools. Scott graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1975 attended Iowa Western Community College (77 & 82) and The University of Northern Iowa (80). Councilmember Belt is Business Development Director for Midstates Bank. Scott is involved in many civic and service groups in the Community. Scott's credo is 'People Helping People. 	Lynne Branigan City Council Member Civic Background: Member of CeeBee Ambassadors, Rotary, Heartland Hosts; Current Board of Director Member: Operation Pride Inc., Bluffs Art Council; Past Chairman/President: Pride Week, CB Human Rights Commission, CB Jaycees; Graduate Leadership CB Class VII; and numerous other civic groups and committees. Lynne was elected to her first 4 year term which begins January 2004. 	Matt Schultz City Council Member Matt Schultz was elected in 2005 to the Council Bluffs City Council. Matt and his wife, Zola, have two children, Levi and Hyrum. Matt is an attorney and a Partner at the Law Firm Coats, Schultz & Watson LLP in Council Bluffs. He received his J.D. from Creighton University, his B.A. from the University of Iowa, and his Associates Degree from BYU-Idaho. Matt served a two year mission in the country of Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is also an Eagle Scout and a member of the Centennial Rotary Club in Council Bluffs. 	Matt Walsh City Council Member First elected to the City Council in 1995, Matt Walsh is currently serving his third four-year term. Matt also serves as the City Council liaison to both the Council Bluffs Public Library and the Mid-American Convention Center. Walsh is a graduate of Creighton University. He is a banker by trade, specializing in commercial business financing. He is a fourth generation resident of Council Bluffs.	MWalsh@CouncilBluffs-IA.Gov
